Trees in the Village of Rowlett Downtown

Aug 17, 2020

The Main Street Reconstruction project is wrapping up. Funded by the 2015 Bond Election, the street project repaved Main Street from the roundabout at Skyline Drive to the President George Bush Tollway (PGBT).

One of the features of the reconstruction project was to continue to add trees along the sidewalks of Main Street. The trees provide both shade and safety for pedestrians walking. Additionally, shade for the sidewalks and streets which reduces the temperature of the concrete, lessens the heat released overnight, thus making for cooler morning walks.

According to Dan Burden of America Walks, "Businesses on treescaped streets show 12% higher income streams, which is often the essential competitive edge needed for main street stores success, versus competition from plaza discount store prices."

Come to the Village of Rowlett Downtown to enjoy them yourself.
