Village of Rowlett Downtown Champion Rob Rose
The Village of Rowlett Downtown is fortunate to have local resident and DART enthusiast Rob Rose in the neighborhood. Rob and wife Debbie have lived in Rowlett for many years and chose to settle down in the Lake Country Estates Neighborhood, just SE of downtown. Rob retired a few years ago and has been an enthusiastic downtown supporter for the last 4 years.
"I spent most of my life as a salesman, driving across the United States. Once I retired, I vowed I had had enough of driving in a car. In 2014, I decided to get my Associates Degree in Environmental Science. It was a field that interested me, and I wanted to keep active." Rob chose to complete his degree at El Centro Community College in downtown Dallas, easily accessible by Rowlett's downtown DART station." It was a great experience for me. I could walk to our Rowlett Station to board DART, from there it was a direct Public transportation helped make my college commute easy and quick."
Rob and Debbie have been all over the DFW area on DART. A couple years ago, Rob started the Rowlett Baby Boomers & Friends Facebook Group. "When I became the Chair of the City of Rowlett's Senior Advisory Board, I was looking for a way to connect with the seniors in Rowlett." The Facebook group started out as Baby Boomer's only, growing to Baby Boomer's and Friends as more residents heard about all the great information in the group. The group has since expanded to facilitating field trips accessible by DART.
"We are looking forward to getting back with our friends as soon as it's safe. Most of us who take trips on DART are in the "at-risk" category, so we are keeping in touch online for now."
In addition to serving on the Senior Advisory Board, Rob and Debbie were instrumental in starting the Downtown Crime Watch. The Crime Watch area covers all of Lake Country Estates and the Village of Rowlett Apartments, as well as the Olivers Addition on the west side of downtown. "We meet three times a year, usually on the lawn across from City Hall."
You can see Rob and Debbie, with their dog Honey, walking throughout the district daily. Recently their granddaughter and her family moved next door to Rob and Debbie. "It's just a great way to live. We love being within walking distance of the library, the grocery store, and walking beneath the old trees throughout our neighborhood. We are a part of a thriving community that includes single family homes, multifamily housing, and businesses. We love living in the Village of Rowlett Downtown."
Speaking of library, Rob and Debbie built a Little Free Library on their front lawn, as well as a picnic table for reading.
