February is packed with exciting events and activities at the Rowlett Public Library in Downtown Rowlett! Whether you're looking for engaging programs for kids, creative workshops, career-building opportunities, or social gatherings, there's something for everyone. Little ones can explore the magic of Storytime, young minds can dive into STEAM adventures, and adults can join book clubs, craft meetups, and job readiness sessions.

ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES

English Language Social Hour, Fridays at 4 pm: Practice English speaking skills in a safe and welcoming environment. Share stories, improve vocabulary, and meet new friends. For non-native speakers of all ages.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Storytime on Wednesdays & Thursdays at 10 am & 11:00 am
For toddlers and preschoolers (ages 0 to 4) who can actively engage and listen for 30 minutes. Due to limited space, tickets are required for entry and can be collected at the reference desk the day of the program. For detailed descriptions, visit the Storytime Page.

Elementals on Wednesdays at 4 pm
Kids ages 5 to 8 can enjoy STEAM-related activities that bring forth innovation and creativity.

    • 5: Chopstick Challenges

      • Learn about science and engineering while building, playing games, and creating art with chopsticks.

    • 12: Galaxy Explorers

      • Create flying objects and explore the principles of aerodynamics. We'll also delve into the science of light by making luminescent goo and creating mesmerizing starry patterns.

    • 19: Whale Tales

      • Learn about the incredible adaptations of these amazing creatures, then create your own blubber to understand how they can stay warm in the cold ocean.

    • 26: Gotta Catch 'Em All

      • Design and build your own Poke Ball, then embark on a mission to find and "catch" hidden creatures using observation, creativity, and a little bit of imagination.

STEAM Squad: Nature's Palette on Thursday, February 27 at 6 pm
Kids ages 9 to 13 can explore the principles of design and composition as you create stunning miniature landscapes using flowers, foliage, and other natural materials.

ADULT PROGRAMS

JobStart: Career & Skills Assessment on Saturday, February 1 at 10 am
Take the first step toward your dream career and discover your potential. This session will use assessments to uncover your interests, skills, and values, guiding you towards fulfilling career paths that align with your individual needs and unique goals.

Tinker Tuesday on Tuesday, February 4 at 6 pm
We will create paintings without a twist (mocktails instead of cocktails). Find a buddy and come paint with us. Materials will be provided. Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Senior Book Club on Wednesday, February 5 at 1 pm
Join us for a lively discussion of Tom Lake by Ann Patchett (Romance)

Writing Salon on Friday, February 7 at 10:30 am
Write for the fun of it every first Friday of the month! Write what you choose: poetry, free form writing, creative writing, memoirs, or fiction. Creative prompts will be provided by Rochelle Colon.

Second Saturday Book Club on Saturday, February 8 at 2 pm
This month's read is Hello Stranger by Katherine Center (Romance)

Medicare 101 on Mondays, February 10 & 24 at 5:30 pm
Rhonda Shirley, an independent Medicare educator, will present information on signing up for Medicare, submitting claims, and the differences between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Tips will be provided for finding prescription drug savings.  

Tabletop Tavern on Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30 pm
Bring forth thy favorite board games and challenge thy fellow revelers to a match of wits and luck! Whether it be a game of cunning chess, a perilous journey through a fantastical realm, or a spirited clash of dice, all are welcome to join the fray. Leave thy tankards of ale at home, for this gathering shall be a sober affair, focused solely on the delights of strategy and chance.

JobStart: Resume Building on Saturday, February 15 at 10 am
Learn the essential skills to craft a winning resume and effectively navigate the job search process. This session will equip you with the tools and resources to create a strong resume and confidently navigate the job application process. We'll provide guidance and support to help you land your dream job.

Friends of the Library Meeting on Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 pm
Want to get more involved in your library? Come to a Friends of the Library meeting. Membership is not required to attend.  

Yak 'n Yarn: Crochet Club on Saturday, February 22 at 11 am
This friendly and inclusive gathering is open to all skill levels, whether you're a beginner learning the basics or an experienced crafter looking to refine your techniques.
