Upcoming January Events at the Rowlett Public Library

Kick off the new year with engaging programs and activities at the Rowlett Public Library in Downtown Rowlett! With a mix of youth and adult programs, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Here's a rundown of what's happening this January:

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Storytime on Wednesdays & Thursdays at 10 am & 11 am For toddlers and preschoolers (ages 0 to 4) who can actively engage and listen for 30 minutes. Due to limited space, tickets are required for entry and can be collected at the reference desk the day of the program. For detailed descriptions, visit the Storytime Page.

    • 22 & 23: Grape Expectations (Fruit)

    • 29 & 30: Soup-er Charged (Soup)

Elementals on Wednesdays at 4 pm Kids ages 5 to 8 can enjoy STEAM related activities that bring forth innovation and creativity.

    • 8: Wobbly Wonders

      • Learn about mechanical energy and kinetic motion to bounce your way through the world of physics.

    • 15: Ignite Your Dragon

      • Bring a paper dragon to life through the magic of paper crafting and electrical engineering.

    • 22: Spot On

      • Find out how individual dots can come together to form a vibrant and detailed picture.

    • 29: Bowling for Bubbles

      • Using bubble wrap to create a bowling ball, kids will explore how force, motion, and energy transfer affect the ball's movement and speed as the bubble wrap compresses.

FIRST® LEGO® League on Thursdays at 6 pm In the SUBMERGED℠ challenge, teams of kids ages 9 to 13 will engage in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Writing Salon on Friday, January 3 at 10:30 am Write for the fun of it every first Friday of the month! Write what you choose: poetry, free form writing, creative writing, memoirs, or fiction. Creative prompts will be provided by Rochelle Colon.

Tinker Tuesday on Tuesday, January 7 at 6 pm This month, learn to make shaped and pillar candles. Ages 14 and up welcome. All materials provided for free, but you can bring your own.

 Senior Book Club on Wednesday, January 8 at 1 pm Join us for a lively discussion ofThe Cat Who Came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory (Biography).

Second Saturday Book Club on Saturday, January 11 at 2 pm This month's read isThe Age of Magical Overthinking: Notes on Modern Irrationality by Amanda Montell (Nonfiction).

Medicare 101 on Mondays, January 13 & 27 at 5:30 pm  Rhonda Shirley, an independent Medicare educator, will present information on signing up for Medicare, submitting claims, and the differences between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Tips will be provided for finding prescription drug savings.  

DnD Game Night on Tuesday, January 14 at 6:30 pm Go on an unforgettable journey into the realms of Dungeons & Dragons, where the only limit is your imagination. Designed for adventurers of all levels, whether you're brand new to tabletop RPGs or a seasoned player looking for new challenges.

Maker Lab on Saturday, January 18 from 10 am to 5 pm Utilize library craft and project equipment in this self-directed program. Minimal assistance available. Must have a library card and a signed waiver on file. Ages 14 and up only; strictly enforced.

Friends of the Library Meeting on Tuesday, January 21 at 6:30 pm Want to get more involved in your library? Come to a Friends of the Library meeting. Membership is not required to attend.  

Yak 'n Yarn: Crochet Club on Saturday, January 25 at 11 am This friendly and inclusive gathering is open to all skill levels, whether you're a beginner learning the basics or an experienced crafter looking to refine your techniques.
